Menopause

Feel like yourself again

Personalized hormone therapy designed to restore balance, energy and confidence

Menopause isn’t a phase you wait out
It is the rest of your life

There is no trophy for suffering

Many women believe they are supposed to tough menopause out, that pushing through without help is the strong thing to do. You don’t have to suffer for a certain amount of time before you are allowed to ask for help. We’re here so you don’t have to do it alone.

For most women, life after menopause is a third of their life or more, and what happens to your body during those years matters.

Estrogen does far more than regulate your cycle. It helps protect your bones, your heart and blood vessels, and your brain. When it stays low for years without support, the effects may not show up for decades, but they could be building. Low estrogen is linked to bone loss and osteoporosis, to heart disease, and possibly to a higher risk of dementia.

You may not feel it in your 50s. But osteoporosis in your 70s can mean a broken hip, and a broken hip at that age can change the rest of your life. Treating menopause isn’t only about feeling better now. It is about the woman you will be in twenty years.

Common symptoms of menopause

  • Hot flashes and night sweats that keep going after your periods stop
  • Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Brain fog and memory lapses
  • Anxiety, low mood or irritability
  • Weight gain around the middle, and a change in body shape
  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Heart palpitations
  • Joint pain, stiffness and loss of strength
  • Vaginal dryness, burning or discomfort
  • Low libido or painful sex
  • Urinary urgency, leaks or recurring UTIs
  • Thinning hair and drier skin

Hormones Matter

The hormones we work with, and what each one does across your body.

Estrogen

  • Brain & mood
  • Heart
  • Bones
  • Skin
  • Vaginal & bladder health
  • Temperature

Estrogen reaches almost every system in your body. It supports mood, memory and focus, helps keep blood vessels flexible and cholesterol healthy, protects bone density, and keeps skin, vaginal and bladder tissue healthy. It also helps your brain regulate body temperature, which is why swings and drops can bring hot flashes and night sweats.

Progesterone

  • Sleep
  • Calm
  • Mood
  • Cycle balance

Progesterone has a calming effect on the brain and helps you fall asleep and stay asleep. It balances estrogen’s effects through your cycle. It often begins to fall early in perimenopause, which is one reason poor sleep, anxiety and irritability can be among the first changes women notice.

Testosterone

  • Libido
  • Energy
  • Muscle
  • Bones
  • Motivation

Women make testosterone too, and need it. It supports desire, energy and motivation, and helps maintain muscle strength and bone. Levels decline gradually with age, and low testosterone can show up as low libido, fatigue or a loss of drive that is easy to blame on a busy life.

DHEA

  • Energy
  • Libido
  • Vaginal health
  • Building block

DHEA is made by the adrenal glands and is one of the building blocks your body uses to make estrogen and testosterone. It declines steadily with age. Lower levels are linked to lower energy and libido, and DHEA used locally can help with vaginal dryness and discomfort.

What if hormones aren’t right for you?

Maybe you would rather not take hormones. Maybe a family history or your own health history means they aren’t safe for you. Either way, we can still help, and you still don’t have to suffer.

There are natural therapies that can ease symptoms and support you through this transition, and we will build a plan around them. They can also work alongside hormone therapy for women who do take it. Come see us anyway.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know I have reached menopause? +

Menopause is reached after 12 months in a row without a period, when nothing else explains it. It is usually identified from your cycle history rather than a single hormone test. Any bleeding after menopause should be checked by a medical provider.

Can symptoms continue after my periods stop? +

Yes. Hot flashes, night sweats and poor sleep can go on for years after your last period, and vaginal and urinary symptoms often start or get worse after menopause rather than before it.

My hormone labs are normal. Could I still be in menopause? +

Yes. For women over 45, menopause is usually identified from your cycle history, symptoms, age and overall health rather than a blood test. Labs can still be useful in some situations, or to look for other causes of your symptoms.

Can menopause cause anxiety if I have never had it before? +

It can. Changing hormones, interrupted sleep and hot flashes can all bring on new anxiety or make existing anxiety worse. New anxiety still deserves a proper evaluation, so that nothing else is missed.

Which menopause symptoms are easy to miss? +

Brain fog, poor sleep, fatigue, heart palpitations, joint pain, hair changes, dry eyes, painful sex, bladder changes and a change in body shape. Many women don’t connect these with menopause at all.

What if my symptoms are mild? +

Often, yes. Some effects of low estrogen, like bone loss, happen quietly and without symptoms. Talking with a provider about your bone, heart and brain health is worthwhile even when you feel mostly fine.

When should I see someone about menopause? +

When symptoms persist, disrupt your life, or leave you not feeling like yourself. Any bleeding after menopause, or symptoms that could have another cause, should be checked promptly.

Does Qavah offer in-person care? +

No. Qavah is a telehealth-only practice, so every visit happens from the comfort of your own home, with no commute and no waiting room.

You don’t have to figure this out alone.
